Pregnancy Ultrasound Scanning

Auntie Jessie offers a mobile pregnancy ultrasound service! This means your mother to be can stay in her home without the stress of travelling. I have undertaken extra training and compelted a certificate with the AUA (Animal Ultrasound Association) for pregnancy scanning in dogs and cats.

What's Included in a Pregnancy Scan with Auntie Jessie?

  • Scans performed from 28 days post mating
  • Confirmation of a viable pregnancy
  • Foetal measurements taken to estimate due dates
  • Audible doppler heart monitoring (dependant on stage of pregnancy)
  • Pictures and videos of the scan for you to keep and share

Being able to offer a mobile pregnancy scanning service as a vet nurse enables more involvment with owners throughout their breeding journey. This means I now have the opportunity to advise owners on the best care for their dam and her young, thus potentially preventing common pitfalls that can occur with inexperienced breeding. This has also created a bridge of contact, meaning breeders are more likely to reach out for further help with the birthing process, care in the weeks to come, and giving those struggling individuals extra support- which saves more lives!

Creating this relationship with breeders has been something I've strived for. As I am not a breeder myself, having an interest in neonatal care without wanting to add to the current population has been restricting in the past. However, I am now able to focus my career on specialising in neonatal nursing, whilst continuing to prioritise my efforts back into helping the rescued neonates that come my way.

I have also found that since completing my scanning certificate, some of the scanning techniques, such as those used to confirm foetal viability or estimate foetal development, are not well known techniques used by vets. As a mobile veterinary nurse, this new skill has taken my small business to the next level. Since becoming self employed, I have been able to invest in myself professionally, in a way that I would never have had the opportunity or confidence to do before. Being able to pursue these interests is not only leaving me feeling fulfilled, but it's also making me the best vet nurse I can be.

Please note- A Registered Veterinary Nurse is not a substitute for your Vet. Veterinary Nurses cannot diagnose nor dispense medication for your pet. The RCVS regulations ensure that Veterinary Nurses cannot perform schedule 3 procedures outside of working in a veterinary practice. There may be circumstances where your dog or cat needs referring to the attention of a Veterinary Surgeon rather than a Veterinary Nurse. Such situations would be for example, if there was an usual finding on a pregnancy scan which could indicate a serious problem such as, pyometra etc.
